Head in Thought

What may seem nothing to you, may mean something to me. So I'll place it here as a way for me to remember and, maybe, make sense of things. My name is Mario, and to those who stumble in, it's always nice to meet you.

“My friends do not forget that your readiness to suffer will light a torch of freedom which can never be put out. Do not forget that we who are now in the middle of our years must inspire the youth when they are almost in the brink of despair. Do not forget that the purpose of life is precisely to examine our being, not merely be a floating flotsam in the floods of time. Do not forget as Longfellow said, that we should never be like driven cattle, but be a hero in the strife.”  Ninoy Aquino, from his 1981 LA speech

Very inspiring and a bit heartbreaking. Ninoy really could have been the best for my country. Alas, Marcos (or any of his cohorts) were effective in rubbing out that dream. Noynoy’s still quite green, but I just hope that there’s a glimmer of his dad in him that we’ve yet to see. But we can’t just rely on one man to bring us out of the mess the country has long suffered. That would be putting too much unfair weight on another’s shoulders; and plain chickenshit on our part as citizens. All of us Filipinos are in this — what seems to be — collective, sinking boat together. And it’s also up to us to get our acts together and take turns in bailing out the murky water of corruption & ineptness that’s not making it sink any slower.
